Chadron State taking orientation to students

Published:

Future Chadron State College students will be able to register for courses and attend orientation sessions at seven sites throughout the Great Plains this month. Preceding the three summer orientations at the CSC campus, college personnel plan to conduct sessions at Scottsbluff, North Platte, Sidney, Rapid City, S.D., Gordon, O’Neill and Casper, Wyo.

Tena Cook, CSC director of admissions, expects the three-hour “off-site” sessions, which begin next week, to be attended by students within a 100-mile radius of those locations. A $20 fee will be charged for those who attend orientations on the CSC campus, but the off-site orientations will be free.

“Any student who plans to attend CSC, or is interested in taking courses, is welcome at all of these events,” she said.

Orientations provide information that helps students make the transition to college, such as housing policies, honor programs, tutoring, food service, laundry facilities and computer access. In addition, CSC advisors will be available at each session to help students finalize their course schedules.

Chadron State began offering the sessions at locations outside Chadron last year. Cook said the idea of taking orientation to other locations came from CSC’s efforts to better serve its service region.

“This really helps students who are already familiar with our campus save time and money,” she said.

In addition to the orientations, Chadron State College distance learning personnel will be available 6-7:30 p.m. at each off-site session to answer questions about their programs, including graduate degrees, professional development courses for educators and summer courses. No appointment is necessary for those meetings.

Students can sign up for an orientations by visiting the meiy.ycdwkj666.com/admissions or by calling the admissions office at 1-800-CHADRON.
